Lainey Vox, the proud owner of Vox Stars, an Edinburgh-based singing and performance coaching studio, brings a wealth of experience in live performance and band settings. Her passion for helping singers from various backgrounds master their voice and performance craft is truly evident.

The Fringe novices, who won the Spirit of the Fringe Award in 2022, are back this year to celebrate aspiring singers through the music of their idols. Their Fringe programme features six themed nights, including Pop & Chart Hits, Retro Hits, Disney, 80’s & 90’s Hits, Party & Pop, and Absolute Legends.

I attended the “Retro Hits” night, where each performer took on classic songs like McFly’s “All About You,” Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights,” and Franki Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” A particularly nostalgic highlight was Hilary’s medley of popular Eurovision songs, enhanced by her talented backing singers who delivered lively dance routines. The costumes were vibrant and retro, adding to the charm of the night, and the choreography, including a well-executed Buck’s Fizz routine, was impressive.

While there were a couple of minor hitches and some moments that weren’t quite pitch-perfect, it was heartwarming to see how much the cast enjoyed themselves on stage. Their enthusiasm is infectious, making them a huge inspiration for anyone with a dream to perform.
