Les Foutoukours’ NoVa is a show that perfectly captures the whimsy and magic of innocence and imagination. Set in a beautiful attic full of stacks of books and flickering candles, our two clowns transport us to a world where anything is possible, at least for a moment. It’s a lovely escape from the outside world. The clowns’ charming antics and playful interactions are a joy to watch, bringing both laughter and moments of quiet reflection. Their ability to balance physical comedy with gentle storytelling is nothing short of remarkable.
What’s impressive in NoVa is the use of acrobatics, juggling, and classic clowning techniques. Whether they are juggling books or balancing upside down on a stack of books, it all feels like a dance. One standout moment is when one of the clowns does a handstand on multiple books, increasing the stack until it seems almost impossible to add more. It’s a showcase of their strength and balance; this has a number of the audience gasping and rightly so.
There are a range of emotions on display here, and we truly are taken on a journey, although not a word is spoken. The two clowns, with their expressive faces and funny little noises, know how to move around the stage and each other to make the show light-hearted and joyful. The moving soundtrack complements the piece throughout.
In the end, NoVA leaves you with a sense of warmth and wonder. It’s a delightful show and reminds us all that even in the darkest of times, light can be found. This show is a must-see for families.
