The Faff Chronicles 4**** - One4Review

Erin McKinnie is Scottish (Perth) and takes full advantage of her accent, with rolling rs and punchy vowels. It imparts a musicality and verve to the show that Ms McKinnie justifiably relishes, and it’s nice to hear a local accent. Erin herself is a fabulous performer – not the next Kevin Bridges, because she’s not derivative – but definitely on the same path of excellent, rollicking, belly-laughing comedy.
There’s no grand narrative here – Ms McKinnie with her mischievous glint and blue stories is quite content with making us laugh, a lot – but a premise frames the show and gives us a rough outline of what to expect. Ms McKinney is aware that she’s nearly an adult, and the show recounts stories of how she’s faffed (I would call it accumulating experience!) through her life unto this point. She’s very good at telling a story, with facial and vocal expressions underlining and emphasising the points. Erin can also sing, and treats us to one in particular. I wasn’t previously aware of the original song, but after some research can attest that Erin’s version is superior.
This hour has it all – great stories, excellent music, and a charismatic comedian.
