40 Years of Fringe : Doon Mackichan and Kieran Hodgson 4**** - One4Review

40 Years of Fringe : Doon Mackichan and Kieran Hodgson 4****

| On 17, Aug 2025

Gilded Balloon marks four decades at the Fringe with a series of special in-conversations featuring comedy greats. Today Kieran Hodgson interviews fellow Two Doors Down star Doon Mackichan.

The show starts with Doon fully in character of Two Doors Down Cathy and a hilarious monologue involving a romantic liaison that didn’t quite go to plan or work out as Cathy had hoped.

The brilliant character of Cathy is only the latest of Doon’s impressive list of credits. We are reminded of some of her past and best work as we are shown clips on screen. The brilliant double Emmy award winning Smack the Pony which Doon co-created, wrote and performed. There was the ground breaking Brass Eye and more recently Doon was BAFTA nominated for Best Female Comedy Performance for Plebs.

The career has been long and varied and but as well as celebrating Doon’s amazing career this is a show which is also celebrating the phenomenal success of Two Doors Down. Kieran Hodgson excitedly tells us that there will be a Christmas Special and a live show is planned for next year.

Doon has regularly appeared at the Fringe with a variety of projects for close to forty years and has many fond memories of living and working in the city.

Kieran is clearly a massive fan and confesses to being quite nervous and star struck on joining the cast of the show.

The show closes with Doon and Kieran reenacting a famous dance scene from the show. It is a fun end to an entertaining hour of chat.
