Mario the Maker Magician 5***** - One4Review

Mario the Maker Magician is such a beautifully crafted show that blends magic, storytelling, and a constant buzz of energy with screaming in an almost constant call-and-response routine that never ends.
The real magic here is how planned everything is, down to moments you wouldn’t usually pay attention to. For keen-eyed parents, the game becomes trying to figure the whole thing out whilst children scream “MORE” and “PLEASE” (thanks for that, Mario). Mario uses constant audience participation and interaction with an over-the-top cartoonish energy that can’t be contained. Whether it’s quick games of ‘Simon Says’ or sleight-of-hand tricks with cards or even shoelaces, everyone is laughing, pointing, shouting, and looking with our hands on our knees, ready for more, please.
Mario layers the show with stories of inspirational figures in his life, from family and teachers to Warhol and Calder; he wants everyone to know they can and should do what they love, whether that’s painting cans of soup, being a hair stylist, or making small robots to amuse young and old alike. You can’t help but get swept up by it all.
It’s worth mentioning that the constant high energy and extreme pace at times may feel somewhat overwhelming for younger viewers or adults expecting a slower-paced magic show. But if you’re looking for a high-octane, motor-mouth who wants to impress with every second of stage time, whilst also delivering quite a thoughtful and heartfelt message, this show really is for you. (Free red nose to boot!)
