Sugar 4**** - One4Review

The award-winning Sugar, written by Ro Bright and performed by Tomas Kantor, is a bold, outrageous, and irresistibly fun theatrical ride. This high-energy cabaret blends cheeky humour, impressive vocals, and a queer twist on a classic rom-com tale to brilliant effect.
Inspired by Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman, Kantor’s alter-ego ‘Sugar’ is on a mission to find a Sugar Daddy. After a string of unsuccessful online dates, along comes Richard—and what unfolds is a hilariously risqué reinterpretation of the original plot, packed with innuendo, camp flair, and more gyrating than you’d find on a dancefloor at 2am.
Kantor is magnetic, effortlessly shifting between characters with sharp comedic timing and charisma. His vocal performances of pop hits from artists such as Kylie and Chappell Roan are a standout, and the clever use of props—including a blow-up doll and a cello—adds to the show’s playful absurdity.
The songs are seamlessly integrated, and the audience is clearly along for the ride—culminating in a well-deserved standing ovation.
Sugar is a celebration of queerness, chaos, and charisma. It’s sexy, silly, and utterly entertaining. If you’re looking for a Fringe show that breaks the rules and brings the energy—this one’s a must.
