Gavin Webster: - The Gathering of the Gav 4 ½ **** - One4Review

Perennial Geordie visitor to the Fringe, Gavin Webster returns once more doing what he does best, entertaining the afternoon clientele who have come to his gathering.
Warming up the chuckle muscles initially, prompting gales of laughter prior to posing the questions What is a gathering? and What is one looking for if attending?
The hour of well written and skilfully delivered material explores many such occurrences, questioning are we looking for entertainment or is enlightenment and possibly inspiration really the reason for attending.
Webster covers both aspects, illustrated with examples, both personal and general, citing the Edinburgh experience as having something for everyone. He has laugh out loud anecdotes of both personal and professional episodes, politics, schools, religions, 70’s nostalgia amongst many, and questions if a audience really wants to know all about the performer.
His reckoning that a charismatic person can really enliven any type of gathering certainly rings true with the most unlikely examples.
One thing that certainly is true is that Webster has plenty of charisma himself, and whether you just want to be entertained or inspired there will be something there for you.
Speaking to a fellow watcher after the show they mentioned that Gavin was ‘a proper’ comic. I would certainly agree.
