Oleanna - One4Review

Oleanna is but one of the many David Mamet plays that are around and for me it is by far one of his finest. I have previously seen in the Fringe a year or two ago, starring and directed by Guy Masterson so I was a little wary as to how this production would compare. I need not have worried, from the opening moments until the finale the intensity of the play exploring the arguments of abuse of power and sexism is played to the limit. The actors Daniel O’Neill and Holly Hardy as teacher John and student Carol must be drained at the end of each performance such is the energy they expend, and it is a credit to the direction of GD Millerick that maintains the tension and evokes intense feelings, occasionally vocal, from the show I saw. There is only one thing missing from this show, the large audience this show merits, and that is of course something you can do something about. I gladly award this my first 5* show of the Fringe 2005 *****
