Songbird  -  A Tribute To Eva Cassidy  - One4Review

The Hayley Clare Quintet from Australia present ‘Songbird’, their tribute to American singer and musical arranger Eva Cassidy. Although relatively unknown before her tragic death in 1996 she has since sold over eight million albums and topped the UK music charts. This tribute takes you on a journey through Cassidy’s life and music. Hayley Clare guides us from Eva’s conception in Germany, her birth in America through to her death from cancer at the tender age of 33. Her sudden meteoric rise to fame was partly due to the use of ‘Songbird’ as part of the film soundtrack for Love Actually. Hayley herself has a lovely voice and it is a pleasure to listen to her and the four superb musicians she surrounds herself with. The musical numbers vary widely in source but are all arranged in the unique Cassidy way. Eva Cassidy herself hated live performances but during a benefit concert organised by her friends and family to raise funds for her treatment, she took to the stage for the last time and sang ‘What a wonderful world’. From one very talented singer to another ‘Songbird – A Tribute to Eva Cassidy’ is a must for every fan of good music looking for a Fringe Performance. ****
