A rambling concoction of sketches around the obvious theme of golf. The cast try very hard to bring out the humour in the prose of P.G. Wodehouse, but the story lines are just too lightweight to appeal. All manner of characters are portrayed. The strongest and most comic characters are Mortimer, one of the many upper class twits on display, and Mary/Mabel, who turns out to be the love of his life. On the other hand, the sketches centred around some medieval king with a strange Sean Connery accent, with the exception of the first sketch, didn’t really connect with the rest of the action. This adaptation is too long to be absorbing and a shorter sharper version might have worked better. It is a pity a group of talented performers are let down by an unconvincing script. Even the intentional exaggeration and over-acting cannot bring life to lines which are really dated. **
