Breakfast With Johnny Wilkinson - One4Review

Having previously seen ‘An Evening with Gary Lineker’ and despite disliking football more than just a little I was actually looking forward to seeing Breakfast with Jonny Wilkinson’. I enjoy rugby and knowing it was based on the Rugby World Cup Final 2003 a match between Australia and England, which I actually watched, was eager to see how the plot was built around the event. This small but very talented and in some parts well-known cast, do a superb job. Going to see a show on its opening day can be a little tricky, even if some of the cast have just finished a West End Run in the same show.  I didn’t detect any difficulties and just sat back and enjoyed this brilliant comical piece of theatre. The elections for Rugby club President are being held the day after the big game , surely the club bar should be jumping and packed even early in the morning?  Could it be true Wilko scores every time Jonny Wilkinson scores and misses when he misses, is it possible 73 exact matching outcomes in succession could be just coincide.  Pregnancy, faithfulness, intrigue and a battle for Aussie England supremacy.   The cast includes the author Chris England,  Norman Pace (Hale & Pace),  Beth Cordingly (The Bill),  Abi Tucker (Secret Life of Us, Heartbreak High),  Michael Beckley (Home & Away),  Justin Edwards (Unaccompanied as I am Pleasance Above 18.20 to 19.20) and presenting John Bulleid. With all the twists and turns in the plot I am sure you like me will be forgiven if at the end you think “well I didn’t see that coming”! I think this will be one of the must have tickets of Fringe 2006. *****
