Vladimir McTavish - A Brief History of Scotland - One4Review

Vladimir McTavish gives a pretty accurate take on some of the important periods of Scottish history. He opens with our own times – the smoking ban, Tommy Sheridan and the World Cup. He feeds off the hard man aspect of Scottish working class culture whether it is from the Picts repulsing the Romans to sectarianism. His style is a mixture of the dry almost lecturing approach to frenzied characterisations. After a slow start the audience did warm to his McGonagle style poem of the Scottish Parliament’s falling beam problem a la the Tay Rail Bridge disaster. He did finish on a high with several possibilities for a Scottish National Anthem. Enjoyable but a somewhat predictable.   ***
