Big Aftermath Of a Small Disclosure – Actors Touring Company 4****

| On 07, Aug 2018

Actors Touring Company bring this play by Magne van den Berg to Summerhall and I spent a pleasurable hour in the company of Louise, Johan, Jon and Sion watching on as their tight cohesive unit splinters following a casual remark which ends all the certainties of their world. On a sparse set the four actors’ lives become increasingly tumultuous following a casual remark by Jon to Louise that he is thinking about leaving the group and seeing the outside world. As this message is passed back and forth between the actors and their movement across the stage becomes increasingly frenetic, Jon’s intentions are questioned, feared and dismissed and as the dialogue progresses their relationships with each other are brought to light, examined and ultimately blown apart. As well as finding all the actors believable in their roles (Mark Weinman as Sion was especially affecting), I found the atmospheric sound track perfectly reflected the action on stage as it gathered pace as the actors became more desperate and the lack of set decoration allowed concentration on the action unfolding in front of us. I should also say that the play has plenty moments of humour despite the increasing tension so if you want a thought provoking hour of entertainment head to the Old Lab and enjoy this play.
