Three Sisters Productions bring this engaging new play to Edinburgh. Written by Maddie Lynes, it recounts the complex relationship between two sisters, Miriam and Jade. Miriam has returned from Singapore for her mother’s wedding and to pack up her old life, currently strewn across her mother’s soon to be vacated flat. Her sister Jade joins her and at once we are aware of a sense of tense atmosphere between the two sisters. As the story unfolds, we move backwards and forwards in time and the cause of the distance between the sisters gradually becomes apparent.

Maria Pointer portrays the uptight Miriam, whose sense of order belies her underlying emotional turmoil. Carefree and chaotic Jade is portrayed by Grainne Dromgoole, whose sunny demeanour hides the sense of loss she feels with the absence of her sister. As they pack up their childhoods, they slowly open up to each other and attempt to bridge the chasm that has grown between them.

The interplay between Maria and Grainne feels very natural and they slip between their childhood and adult roles effortlessly. The script has light touches of comedy, which both actresses deal with well, without losing the emotional depth required for the more distressing themes of the play. A very pleasant 65 minutes, well worth your time.
