Scottish performer and certified wine enthusiast Anna Larkin returns as French sommelier Anna Lou in her popular solo cabaret show. The afternoon begins with a complimentary glass of wine for the audience, setting the stage for an afternoon of musical and comedic entertainment.

Anna Lou, the host of the wine club, kicks off the show with a lively song listing the various wines in stock. The cabaret then weaves an intriguing narrative: Anna Lou’s husband, Marcel, has been murdered, and she’s determined to uncover the culprit. Her prime suspect is Bob, whose name is always met with a disdainful spit. Bob is the new owner of Le Wine Club, the dream wine bar that Anna Lou and Marcel once shared.

Larkin’s French accent is spot-on, adding authenticity as she guides us through the plot. Her songs, occasionally accompanied by an accordion, are delightful, particularly the humorous number about how she met and fell in love with Marcel, which includes a cheeky tale of alfresco romance. Audience participation is encouraged when Anna Lou asks them to shout out their “happy place,” prompting them to imagine a picnic where they enjoy food and wine, leading into a performance on perfect wine and food pairings.

Larkin’s expertise in wine is evident throughout the show, as she effortlessly blends a masterclass on wine tasting with comedy and song. This is a thoroughly enjoyable experience for both cabaret and wine lovers alike.
