Award-nominated comedian, writer, and actor for ITV2, Channel 4 and BBC3, Micky Overman, or Ozzy Osbourne (I’m not sure anymore) is back with us at The Fringe. This time the former nanny (I was one too, so go team-nanny), presented a show on change & commitment and all those relatable moments that we find within our own relationships and friendships.
Those cuddles at night, the ones where you are glad your partner has fallen asleep so that one can finally assume the starfish pose. Micky explores the different kinds of love language we use to express ourselves in our relationships from gift giving or acts of service. I was sitting next to a data analyst friend that I know and I am sure expresses their love for people in the same way Micky’s boyfriend does. Not wanting to give the whole act away in one review, but all I can say is that she excels in conveying this to her audience.
The room didn’t stop laughing even during the times when mental health rears its important but ugly head, and Micky cleverly crafts this in a way that doesn’t take us into that dark bat cave of psychoanalysis. Instead surrounds us with amusing energetic anecdotes and an element of hand-holding through those times when life isn’t all jazz hands. This is where we saw Micky beautifully illustrate through observation and self deprecation the ways in which she has coped through life’s only constant and that being: change.
Micky, that hilarious funny best friend you always wanted, not only reduced me to cry-tears but inspired me with the feeling that when I grow up I wanna be like Micky. She really does know how to create an environment for much needed collective millennial laughter and that she, indirectly, became the best emotional support comic I’ve seen and who brought just enough calamity without drifting into too much chaos – highly recommended.
