I Really Do Think This Will Change Your Life – 4****

| On 09, Aug 2024

This play, written and performed by Emma-Louise Howell, starts at breakneck speed and never loses momentum. We are treated at the outset to a hilarious tale of our heroine Belles, working as a child’s entertainer, dressed as Elsa from Frozen at a children’s party. In a continuing downward trend in Belles’ life, she is set on fire and landed with a bill for the damage caused. She, who had once been meant for great things, is just a disappointment to her mother and to herself.

To turn around her life, she decides to help her friend Kenz, who has been ripped off by an online pyramid scheme. In doing this she has to immerse herself into the Tyche universe and tackle its scheming leader Cam. However, in her scheming, has she become a version of her target?

With use of multimedia to accentuate the action and Emma-Louise Howell’s rhythmic delivery, the audience is treated to feast of visual and aural delights. Emma-Louise’s skill with language and accents is a real highlight of this show, but occasionally the pace was so fast it was easy to lose track of what was happening in the plot. However, we never lose sight of the message of the pervasive danger that exists in society today. This is a compelling and warmly received show which I thoroughly recommend.
