It must be galling at times being in the stand-up industry. You slave away for years and only one person turns up at your opening night. The show that has been honed over many weeks, ignored by most. But lady luck was on his side that night and the resulting publicity generated insured Robin Grainger had arrived.
Two years on and Grainger is more often than not getting sell-out shows and it is not hard to see why.
Refurb, his 2024 offering, has all the trademark construction and style of the man, it’s beautifully constructed and written, jammed with stories, anecdotes and of course laughs, as he leads us through the hour.
Robin, delivers his material in a quickfire fashion, one must keep alert, it would be so easy to miss something if not. He illustrates with a selection of images how his life has needed refurbed on several occasions over the year, expands on these in an informative and hilarious fashion from his premature birth growing up in rural Aberdeenshire, fear of slides, inability to gain weight.a different Xmas list, and who thought there was so many laughs when talking about bin bags?
There is no doubt in my mind that he is a top quality performer with an endearing stage presence. If you have not seen him before then go this year, if you have catch up with the latest offering.
