I don’t know why, but I feel my Fringe has not really started in earnest until I have had the annual dose of Seymour Mace and the brilliant mayhem he continues to produce year on year.
If there are rules for a comedy show, then Mace probably breaks every one, but this wickedly ingenious performer does it his way, no darkened room, his intro probably 15 minutes in, creative self-made props, his audience interactive games, alternative songs, even ‘ventriloquism’ are all in the show too.
The title does give a clue that there in quite a bit of swearing in the hour, ’cause he does like to swear a lot, and it does keep the kids away!
Mace has had mental health issues for years, and has recently been diagnosed as having ADHD, who would have thought?. His set flits from subject to subject, has virtually every genre of performance, he is also an artist and a self-proclaimed dancer, as is demonstrated, and is not adverse to shouting out of his venue window involving passers-by.
And of course he has his finale.
If there is a more inventive, chaotic, outrageously funny comedian around I have yet to see them. I have had my annual fix now; the Fringe has really started.
