Tennis 4**** - One4Review

Tennis 4****

| On 18, Aug 2024

This action-packed physical theatre comedy-drama centres on two tennis players, Don McEnroe and Bjorn GNU. Dressed in their 1980s tennis attire—complete with open-toed sandals—they welcome the audience to the onstage tennis court.

The show kicks off with a humorous advertisement for the DON GNU brand displayed on a screen at the back of the stage. As with any tennis match, a warm-up is essential, and the players’ efforts to outdo each other during these exercises are absolutely hilarious.

Audience interaction is a standout feature, with everyone encouraged to cheer for their favourite player, and some even getting involved in the performance.

The duo’s timing to the background sound effects is impeccable. Their expressive facial reactions combined with outstanding acrobatic physicality keep the audience enthralled throughout. A particularly impressive moment comes when they expertly synchronise their movements with the real-life Borg vs. McEnroe match playing on the screen behind them. The choreography is exceptional, especially during a slow-motion fight and a ballroom dancing routine. Additional sketches, including a hilarious toilet break and a robot tennis match (following what appears to have been some major bone metalwork surgery), add even more fun to the show.

I highly recommend getting tickets for this hugely entertaining slapstick comedy performance.
