Zoe Brownstone: A Bite Of Yours 3*** - One4Review
one4review | On 04, Aug 2024
Zoe Brownstone is a self-described hopeless romantic, having grown-up in the 90s golden age of rom-coms, and she’s been searching for her own happy ending. Technically solid and well delivered, this show would perhaps benefit from a bit of refinement and polish on the punchlines, though the overall content of the show was engaging and entertaining.
Ms Brownstone gets started right away, and it’s refreshing to be able to settle in without worrying something’s going to be required of you (such as an answer to a question!). She explains how the show’s going to go, and how we’re going to end up – it’s nice to know the destination! – and then we’re off. A clear thread runs through the show, and it keeps us on track and provides framing for the asides and detours. Ms Brownstone is a good performer, confident and professional, but the pacing and the vibe don’t change much through the show. Her story is interesting and engaging, and has the potential to be hiarious.
Zoe Brownstone is a great performer with lovely stage presence who perhaps hasn’t quite found her content yet. Nevertheless, she pulled a delightful ending out of the hat, and the audience I was part of seemed to have a good time.
