please DON’T see our show 3.5***

It’s well worth ignoring the entreaty and, in fact, seeing this show, because it’s entirely nonsense and parody and a whole lot of good fun. The six person cast are all fully committed and perform extremely well, the choreography and presentation thereof is delightful and hilarious by turns, and all of this does a great job of masking some holes in the plot and slightly clunky characterisations.

I don’t wish to be mistaken: this is a great show, in many elements. It’s frivolous and silly and presented with impeccable professionalism and respect for the audience. The cast know exactly what they’re doing, and they seem to having as good a time performing as we are watching. There’s just a couple of elements that don’t sing quite as true as the rest – some late-plot back story and characterisation that doesn’t sit in as seamlessly with everything else, and a plot device called Elaine – that draw attention away from the delightful dramas onstage and towards the mechanics for a wee bit.

There is a lot going on in this show – like, a lot: zumba, a Love Actually parody, interpersonal and relationship drama – and regardless of any nitpicks with the plot, everyone is swept along on a wave of bouncy joy and energy for a thoroughly fun show.
