Gavin Webster – An Hour Of Shouting And Swearing 4 .5 **** - One4Review
one4review | On 09, Aug 2024
Dressed in a dinner suit, albeit with a bow tie somewhat a skew, Gavin Webster bursts into his room making the whole audience immediately pay attention. And he held their attention for the full hour.
Webster, a veteran of many a Fringe, is a proper comedian. He tells jokes, funny jokes, in fact lots of funny jokes. He likes shouting and swearing, in fact he loves it. He quips how can you like one without the other.
He is not a fan of upsetting anyone, yet it seems too many people take offence today. He tells of some post gig abuse he had from punters, the difference between British and American comedians. He talks of ‘Dad’s Army’, the reruns in the 90’s and likened them to a certain female lead lunchtime show, the strangeness of the euphemism of swearing as industrial language.
He is not all shouty though, he can be a fair mimic of people, he talks of worrying about his family growing up and even in his more serious moments can always find a funny punchline.
There is even time for him to end on a song to round of an hour as only he can.
