The Stand Comedy Club is famous for presenting compilation comedy bills most evenings throughout the year. But this was 13.15 . Lunchtime. Okay, how will that work?
Not daunted I went along to see an all-woman hour and do you know what it worked, and worked well.
Amanda Dwyer was the host of the show and did the required job well, warming up the crowd, identifying potential quirks for herself and others to return to, prior to introducing Susan Riddell who opened the show ‘proper’. As always she delivered in style and her all too short set had the punters laughing long and hard.
A brief return of Amanda prior the introduction of Erin McKinnie to the stage. It was the first time I had come across her, but a live wire performer with a whole lot of hilarious material got a great reception from one and all.
The headline act was Glasgow based Northern Irish comic Elaine Malcolmson. It has been a while since I had last seen her, but she was up to the usual high standard that is her norm. Less bouncy than Erin, Elaine drew many a laugh with her set and went down well with all.
Of course the line-up changes every day so it is possible to make frequent visits.
