24Weeks – 4****

| On 07, Aug 2025

Set in a terrifyingly plausible dystopia where abortion is illegal, contraception is tightly restricted, and the NHS is legally obliged to report any suspicious female health activity, 24Weeks is a chilling and urgent play written by Laura Walker.
Split into two acts, the first opens with Becca, the morning after a heavy night. She’s sick, disoriented, and something’s clearly not right. Her best friends, Faye and Georgie, are there—but the way they fuss over her is strange and loaded with tension. It quickly becomes clear that they know something that she doesn’t. The air is thick with secrets, guilt, and something darker lurking beneath the surface.
Act two rewinds to the night before, filling in the blanks of what had happened to Becca. This shift in structure is very effective—it lets the story slowly unravel like a mystery, with the truth hitting even harder when it finally lands.
The performances of Erin Jederon-Hogg (Becca), Katie Pedelty (Faye) and LJ Williams (Georgie) are emotionally raw and painfully believable and add heft to the themes explored in the play. The soundtrack and video montages are used skilfully to add a growing sense of panic.
With Roe v. Wade’s reversal still echoing globally, 24Weeks feels worrying prescient. It’s not just theatre—it’s a warning.
