Matt Harvey: I Got Bit By A Monkey Once 3***

| On 18, Aug 2025

Matt Harvey, straight outta Melbourne, tells stories the way your weird uncle knits you socks for Christmas—kind of comforting, kind of weird, and honestly, a bit wonky in spots. Don’t come looking for rapid-fire punchlines, this guy’s more about dragging you through the muck of his memories, layering the laughs with a little “should I be worried?” energy and a lot of “I can’t believe that actually happened.”
The whole show is basically: “Here’s how I made a dumb decision, and then doubled down on dumber.” It kicks off with Harvey getting bitten by a monkey in Bali (yeah, not a metaphor, he actually got chomped), and just unravels from there into the wildest blend of travel diary and fever dream you’ll hear this side of a backpacker hostel. The real kicker? Nobody around him seems to care. He tells it with that exhausted vibe of someone who’s still not sure if he should laugh or call a lawyer. Picture the movie ‘Outbreak’ but sped up, swap Dustin Hoffman for a bunch of confused tourists, and add a ton of mosquitoes. And if there’s ever a COVID sequel, bet on Harvey to be the first headline.
It just gets weirder: there’s this bus ride that’s basically sponsored by paranoia, an arrest that feels both totally expected and completely avoidable, and a mugging so stupid it loops back around to funny. The guy doesn’t really do punchlines—he’s more into painting the mess in full color so you’re right there with him, sweating and regretting your life choices.
Harvey’s got the skills and the talent. Definitely worth a look.
