Sarah Kendall - One4Review

Aussie comic, Sarah Kendall, gives the impression that she is an Aussie backpacker, travelling the world to regale us with humorous stories that arise from her tactlessness and social ineptitude.

Her first jokes are ok, but not great, and she uses this to go into a routine about her nervousness – indicating that the opening had obtained what she wanted from her audience. This is a well rehearsed routine, deceptively so.

Her stories of social ineptitude, told as though she was there (don’t believe that she is so dumb), and enjoyable for their level of farce.

The funniest moments are produced by the onset of commercial breaks. Topical and satirical, she has a good go at racist commentators who forget that their mikes are on, a certain former footballer who advertised a product for “erectile dysfunction”, but my favourite is the ad for innumeracy – I won’t give away the punch line.

This is a smart, well-rehearsed gig that will make you smile, cringe and laugh. Enjoyable, but with room for improvement, but I would say that, wooden eye?

To understand that last crack, and because she’s funny, you can see Sarah Kendall most nights at The Pleasance Courtyard.

8/10.
