Nicholas Nickleby - One4Review

We have followed the productions of Bablake Drama at the Fringe over several years. For there 2005 presentation they are using ‘The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby’ part 1. Switching locations from scene to scene between London, Yorkshire and Portsmouth. I ended up slightly confused as ‘Nicholas Nickleby’ morphed in to ‘Romeo and Juliette’. Supposedly written for the roving players by Nicholas Nickleby providing a happy ending where no one dies. Of this fairly large cast only Adam Fray as Nicholas Nickleby and Sarah Corrigan as Kate Nickleby do not have multiple roles to play. Occasionally the stage is just to full of bodies not to be distracted from the main action. This is a nicely acted and directed piece with some interesting costumes. It is interesting to see a slightly different interpretation of this Dickens favourite. ***
