Think No Evil of Us : My Life with Kenneth Williams - One4Review

David Benson’s performance as Kenneth Williams is much more than an impersonation. Yes, his re-creation brings out the voice, looks and mannerisms but he really gets into Williams’ eccentric and tortured character in the opening and final sections of the show. This is all the more impressive since he never met Williams. In the middle section he brings out his connection with Williams in relation to his home and school life growing up in Birmingham. His depiction of his former headmaster with the audience joining in on the act as the morning assembly is a comic high point. David Benson’s portrayal of Kenneth Williams is witty, utterly convincing and moving, if perhaps slightly too long in the final section as a one act piece.              ****
