Tim Minchin is an electrifying talent. After his deserved success and recognition last year, has he delivered this year? The answer is emphatically yes. By now we know he is a multi-talented performer. His songs and poetry are delivered flawlessly and create bizarre illusions. His stand up is sharp and humorous. He definitely knows how to keep the audience on the edge of their seats with explosive energy one moment followed by quieter moments where the slightest facial gesture is all that is required. Topics he runs with this year include the rock and roll nerd, evolution, spiders, ‘normal sex’ and reviewers who have a tendency to wander of into obscure and overblown language. Point taken. Rounding off the show he does a repeat of the canvas bag song which builds up in intensity to the big tongue in cheek finish. The audience didn’t let him get away without doing an encore and he does the weirdest love song you are ever likely to hear. Tim Minchin is one act to put on your ‘must see’ list. *****
