Topping & Butch & Friends - One4Review

Where in the world could you get a guest list  of this quality and quantity on one line-up except in the middle of Edinburgh with Topping & Butch! I couldn’t believe my luck when I discovered who was on the line-up and to actually be present and see what these people get up to on a night off! This had to have been one of the top tickets for the night, selling out the big upside down purple cow that is E4 Udderbelly a phenomenal array of guests doing things that only Topping & Butch could dream up! I love T & B but to deliver this particular list of guests in to their warped hands is a bit like leading lambs to the woollen mill. Kate Kopstick, renowned performer, TV personality and Head comedy reviewer for the Scotsman got off lightly introducing this bloody fantastic show and after one musical number the 12 piece house band, Siyaya from Zimbabwe came on. Maggie Bourgein brought on Reg D Hunter, resplendent in PVC basque and kilt, who joined in a rendition of ‘That’s Why the Lady is a Tramp’ which could almost translated to ‘This way the Laddie Looks so Camp’ ,if you could ever describe Reg that way. They then sang a song about Cherie Blair during which she made a personal appearance carrying her new autobiography. It was actually talented young comedian Zoe Lyons, the resemblance is scary and she uses it in her act. Lizzy Roper and Justin Edwards were introduced given the words to a hoedown number for later in the show. The show ‘Greedy was joined by members of ‘Tossers’ in a Shakespearian pop showdown ending in an ‘Oops up Side Your Head’ floor dance carefully watched over by Christine and Neil Hamilton. Having them join in on the floor would have been too hilarious for words. Topping & Butch took a well-earned respite leaving us in the safe hands of Kirk Van Rimmer ex-porn star cum comedian. Finally Lizzy and Justin returned to do a ho-down. It seems like Topping & Butch have the charisma to get other performers to do unusual things in front of an audience. Their magic ways with words rub off on their people skills. The question remains how on the 21st of August could they be Topping this line-up and could you be Butch enough to fight your way in to getting a ticket assuming it is not sold out! This fantastic show left its audience hungry for more and the straightest heterosexual would have worn bondage gear to ensure this. I want to give it 6 but we are only allowed up to five. *****
