Anna the Slut and the (Almost) Chosen One - One4Review

This intriguing play written and directed by Andrew J Hungerford is based on Sumerian mythology is the story of the Goddess of Sex ,not content with her own world she descends to the Underworld to steal her sisters throne with unexpected consequences. A few thousand years later she resurfaces as Anna in undergraduate colleges in the States always on the lookout for fresh victims and runs into Greg the geek, Mason the jock who seek her favours unaware of the peril involved. Add to the mix an all knowing bartender, a pool playing post grad Julia and another pal Eric and the cocktail is complete. The historical story is told with shadow puppets, the modern day version set in a rundown bar with elements of comedy and tragedy together with some well choreographed stage combat and a cliff hanging ending keep the attention riveted throughout. The role of femme fatale Anna is particularly well played by Stephanie Brait and she is well supported by Emily Matlack, Kyle Nunn, Jonathan Silver, Kellen Yorke and Michael Burnham in the other roles. ***
