Bridget Christie: A Ant - One4Review

***

3 Stars

There are not too many shows this Fringe that have a warm up act, but then there are not too many Ant comedians available on the Fringe this year.

A Ant is the warm up for Bridget Christie. The typical ant is a social creature, but obviously no one told this one that, feisty doesn’t come into it as she harangues the tech. staff about entry music and rants on about everything before morphing into Ms Christie herself.

This is the first time I have seen her perform even though she has been in Edinburgh a number of times previously.

Ms Christie has a different perspective on things and some of her stuff is definitely surreal. Now this is fine if the audience are going with you, but the crowd I saw her show were less than responsive. Her material is well thought out, if slightly strange at times, and she delivers it with style.

This Gloucester native talks about a number of subjects, Sainsbury’s, cats, Nick Clegg, Richard Dawkins and Andrew Lloyd Webber amongst others and her rounded tone is appealing. I feel that she was aware that her stuff was not going down too well on the day and was a bit deflated by this. A different audience, one who went along with her, would have helped.

I would definitely see her again in the future.
