Katie Mulgrew: Your Dad’s Not Funny 3 Stars ***

| On 07, Aug 2013

Katie Mulgrew is doing her first solo show, having shared a stage at Fringe 2013, but admits that she never really wanted to be a comedian, in fact there were a whole list of careers she wanted to do, so many in fact that it filled a whole PowerPoint slide in a pretty small font.

But a comic she has become and a pretty good one too. I suppose it is in the blood her dad is a famous TV comedian of the 70’s and 80’s and she copped a bit of grief for this during her school days.

Ms Mulgrew is an engaging comic, she has a whole load of funny material, often self-deprecating and obviously has a strong sense of family values and this is illustrated by a series of photos of family that punctuate her set. And another thing that comes across is that she is also embracing one of her famous dad’s favourite expressions that she is just happy to be in show business.

Her show is very early in Fringe terms but there are far worse ways to start off a busy Edinburgh day.
