Loretta Maine: Strong Independent Woman (Unless I Am Very Tired) 4**** - One4Review

Loretta Maine: Strong Independent Woman (Unless I Am Very Tired) 4****

| On 19, Aug 2014

Following a recent tour of her show Bipolar and multiple brushes with the law not to mention bottles of white wine Loretta has had a makeover. She is being moved into pop rather than the C&W style more associated with her.

Ms Maine and her band of three perform a selection of numbers as only they can linking with Loretta explaining the changes, marauding through the audience at regular intervals, on the night I went she probably got a little more attention than she wanted from one section, but the new clean living, charity working pink dressed ‘pop star’ coped well given the trouper she is.

But is the old Loretta really a thing of the past? As the show progresses the new persona does develop a crack or two and the ‘old’ Ms Maine starts to emerge.

The characterisation is as always superb, her singing voice seems to get better each year and even so far into the Fringe the energy never flags for a second. Also the change in style of some of the musical numbers are both funny and catchy. The show in a small circus seems to have the right feel for a show, where an hour of non-stop entertainment is over way to soon.
