Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens 5***** - One4Review

Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens 5*****

| On 05, Aug 2014

Was it really 1995 when Saucy Jack landed at the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time? It seems like yesterday that the exploits of the dysfunctional characters that inhabit the sleazy Saucy Jack’s club on Frottage Three and the dastardly story of murder deceit and love unfolds, solved with the power of disco was first unleashed on the world.

There have been a number of murders of cabaret singers at the club each killed by a sling back shoe through the chest and it is time to get to the bottom of this, cue The Space Vixens, the cosmic cops, to solve the crimes. But which of the shady characters is in the frame? Dr Von Whackoff? Sammy Sax? Mitch Maypole? Booby Shevalle? Even Jack himself? And is there any history here?

The story of hope, despair and even love develops over the two hours running time and full justice is given to the characterisations, the staging and direction by Michael Fidler and of course the interpretation of the oh so catchy musical numbers that pepper the show.

I think it is almost impossible not to be impressed and drawn into this late night hoot. Get yourself along, leave your troubles at the door and get down and into the best party in town at its spiritual home, the Edinburgh Fringe.
