Sarah Kendall :- A Day in October 4*** - One4Review
one4review | On 16, Aug 2015
Sarah Kendall has been attending the Fringe for years, since 2003 in fact, and was nominated for the Perrier Award along the way so has a solid pedigree.
The current offering ‘A Day in October’ is a combination of her comedic skills and also her storytelling abilities as after a few minutes warming up the audience, launches into the bitter sweet tale of her schooldays and events back in her native Newcastle Australia.
With her innate ability as a raconteur, rich writing skills blended in with her natural comedy talents she leads the audience on a journey featuring George Peach, the picked on kid, herself, an alcoholic librarian and others including bully Simon Drake.
Ms Kendall has written the piece with skill, driving the story on, almost tangible descriptions of people and places and gherkins yet with enough laughter to make what is a sort of dark comedy easier to take. But it is Sarah’s story and she can decide what happens and does very well indeed.
If all storytelling was as good as this then I’d certainly watch more.
