Starman – Sven Ratzke 4****

| On 08, Aug 2016

Sven, who was dressed in an outfit that wouldn’t look out of place in a Star Wars film, started the show with his witty repartee with the audience.
He then transports us back in time to 1969, when the first man landed on the moon. He proceeds to take us on a trip that that took him from gazing at the stars in the Meadows, eventually ending up in the Chelsea Hotel in New York, where he meets the Andy Warhol rabbit – the description of him running around the New York subway with this rabbit was absolutely hilarious.
These stories did not make any sense but there were a lot of drugs around in the music industry in1969, notable in many lyrics, so perhaps this was deliberate. As bizarre as these stories were, Sven’s delivery was so mesmerising you couldn’t help but be engaged.
Fitting in with this were classic Bowie songs, such as Time, Rebel Rebel, Heroes and, obviously, Starman. Sven delivered these songs in his own style with his fabulous voice and an emotional performance. A three-piece band accompanied him giving the music a jazzy feel.
This Starman will blow your mind, a very entertaining night out.
