Krystal Evans – Kaleidoscope 4**** - One4Review

Krystal Evans – Kaleidoscope 4****

| On 16, Aug 2022

Tucked into a temporarily deserted office in the depths of Edinburgh Old Town Krystal Evans, an Edinburgh based American with a ‘resting sarcastic voice’, her words, takes her audience on a journey from her early life, through heart break and tragedy, fires, dysfunctional parents, being given a Christian name associated with strippers, drugs and trailer trash. She lets us know it’s ok to laugh at past hurts and it can be a kind of therapy.
She relates one story after another, some drawing audible gasps from her audience, yet it was not all bad she states, there were good points as well. The contrast to her upbringing and the way she is raising her own family, as illustrated by VT, is a fitting conclusion.
There is no doubt that Krystal has had a lot to put up with in her life, yet with clever writing and a confident stage persona, she never makes it maudlin, rather interesting and illuminating, and yes, she did find the funny throughout.
The Fringe is all about taking a punt occasionally, and this is certainly one show that could be well worth your while attending.
