As I stood outside in a very large queue in the searing heat waiting to get into the Nina Conti Dating Show, I could feel there was a real buzz of excitement. People looking for a good show to kick off their evening.
Nina managed to pretty much sell out The Grand at the Pleasance, which is testament to the popularity of this award winning ventriloquist and comedienne.
She is incredibly engaging with her audience and soon we are introduced to her sidekick, a small but very acerbic monkey.
There’s no doubt that she’s a very quick thinker and manages to pick on her volunteer’s foibles in what turns out to be a hilarious hour long show.
Her comedic timing is on point and her prop volunteers are putty in her hands being moulded into a variety of characters all looking for love. How she manages to work their situations into a song is very clever and has us in hysterics. Music provided by Dan the very talented guitarist.
If you get a chance, please do go and see Nina and her entourage, I reckon it’s the only show here at the Fringe that uses masks and doesn’t involve Covid!
