Perfect Pairing: A Wine Tasting Dancegustation 4****

| On 07, Aug 2023

If you love your wine and enjoy watching some contemporary dance then this is the show for you. Attitude Dance Company have organised a wine tasting with a difference. A collaboration between Dance/Choreographer Xavier McGettigan and wine expert Laura Viva you will experience this wine tasting through well thought out choreographed dance routines that demonstrate the senses of what each wine delivers.

We start with the bubbles, a Cava Clos Mont Blanc from Spain. A light bubbly wine that tastes delicious. Associated as a fun party wine, four dancers take to the stage with a party routine along to the music of Lionel Richies, All Night Long.

The second wine is a Brose’. A 2021 Rose’Alkoomi Wines from Western Australia. To be honest I had never heard of this one before. Our host discussed the history of Rose’ where it has a reputation for being a poor relation to other wines, a bit sickly, sweet and unsubstantial. However this has been adjusted over time adding a higher alcohol content giving it a bolder flavour. This one was certainly bolder and I dread to think what state I’d be in if I drank a bottle of it. Our dancers totally nailed this sensation starting with a slow dance routine and then getting livelier and flirty as the dance went on.

Now the third wine in my opinion is not for the faint hearted: The Natty Solara Orange Wine Creme Regas Estate from Romania. This is a natural wine. A bit funky and quirky with a bit of a sour taste to it. A well thought out music choice and choreographed routine totally expressed how you would feel if you had too much of this wine on a night out.

Finally we end our wine tasting with a red 2018 Cab.Merlot Alkoomi Wines from Western Australia. Smooth, rich and warming (or was that just because I was in a small room and had just drunk 3 glasses of wine). It was delicious, although I did find it quite strong. Our dancers finished the show with a beautiful sultry dance to Moon River again managing to express the warming sensation that this wine delivers.

I thought this was a great concept for a wine tasting. They are a small and very organised team. The host did a great introduction to each wine, building up the dance choreography that was to accompany each wine tasting. The four dancers made great use of the small stage with great timing and expression. Drinks were efficiently delivered and sound and lighting worked well with it all. The quality of the wine was excellent. Like the red wine,I left feeling warm and fuzzy.

I would recommend this, especially with a group of friends
