‘The things i did while waiting for you to fall back in love with me’ solo dark comedy executed in a small intimate studio by American comedian Sarah Hogewood with high energy and quick witted ways.
The venue was incredibly intimate with around 20 seats and felt a little claustrophobic and enclosed for such a big personality. The story portrays the stages of grieving a relationship where unrequited love is experienced.
Fleeting thoughts of someone tormented by the trauma of being ‘dumped’ are put over to the audience with the utmost exaggerated detail shared.
As the comedian moves through the stages of grieving and coping she introduces a few really funny lines (swear words utilised with great and hilarious effect.) This was really the highlight of the performance.
Moving on, the focus on depression and suicidal thoughts were expressed in a clever way allowing the audience to really get inside the mind of the tortured lost girl post breakup. A little full on and unsettling for the viewer in an already enclosed, dark and intimate performance room.
Despite this Sarah has a contagious energy and with her brisk moves and quick talk she doesn’t leave you bored for a second. References to dating sites, both positive and negative keep things in line with what is current for a lot of single people. Examples of dates etc had the audience giggling and were potentially relatable to some of the audience.
Full on, fast and furious with a touch of darkness and self indulgence this is a short performance which many may enjoy. Quirky show would be best suited to entertaining an audience of aged 40 or beneath.
