Jasper Carrott and Alistair McGowan 5***** - One4Review

I remember both Jasper and Alistair from the 90s however their careers started well before this. I loved their work back then so when this show was advertised, I was keen to see them. Two very different comedy styles, I was intrigued how this would go. I was laughing from start to finish, these two individuals delivered an hilarious few hours of comedy.
In the beautiful venue at Prestonfield stables each comic delivered two 30 minutes slots with an interval between (an hour in total). Jasper and Alistair performed their material flawlessly, with absolute professionalism and hilarity. The way they connected with the crowd and held their attention throughout was impressive.
Up first was Alistair McGowan. Such a lovely natural talent and manner, he fell into his impressions with ease. He got the impressions spot on and although I did not know some of the people by name, I recognised the voice immediately. He mimicked their mannerisms so well, which amplified his performance. Alistair was able to tell stories, using his impressions, which seemed to have a natural flow to them, despite being different characters. We were even treated to live readings of a few of his own poems which of course were hilarious. What an amazing talent he has and an absolute delight to watch him perform live.
Next up, the comedy legend that is Jasper Carrott. His regular one liners just came out of no where but were an immediate hit with the audience. He delivered his material as if having a chat with the audience. His soft Brummy accent just added to the delievery and in most cases the hilarity of what he was saying. Jasper appeared relaxed and natural in the stage and, just like Alistair, held the audience’s attentions so effortlessly. Jasper apparently did a sketch where he read real insurance claim forms. He treated us to an updated version, using real recent claims. It is the way he reads them that makes it so funny. At the end we were treated to some musical comedy by Jasper which was an absolute delight to watch.
I cannot recommend this combined comedy show enough. I was tearful with laughter, proving that that the long timers (not going to say old, that was a sore point for both of them!) are the best. I wonder if they could ever do a sketch together however they both show so much love and respect for each other’s different styles. Both of these legends looked like they too had an amazing night and they certainly gave the audience one! If you get the chance, don’t miss this!
