Bronwyn Kuss – Sounds Good 5*****

| On 22, Aug 2024

The opposite to most of the comedians that I seem to navigate to, this one is dry as the red Gibson Desert in Australia. Pinder Prize winning Bronwyn is here at The Fringe with her monosyllabic deadpan wit. If I carried out a study on how many words a comic uses in a set, Bronwyn would come at the top with the least words used, yet the content she delivers is hilarious and memorable.

She takes us on a journey of bystanderism while sharing stories from catholic school days and taking her one eyed dog to the vet. What stuck out for me was a truly hilarious sketch about her jealousy over her girlfriend’s ex and their up and coming celestial adventures. Even this part superseded the section when Bronwyn mocks the crap out of unsolicited d**k pics with the audience. For those Scots reading this, Bronwyn tells us about the time she lived here in Edinburgh and has some great anecdotes while working at a sexual health clinic.

She brings us relatable topics, again delivered in her usual laidback matter-of-fact way. I remarked to a surprised looking Bronwyn that her set was ‘relaxing’. What I mean to say is it’s in the way she holds herself (like the opposite to a peppy drama kid). While Bronwyn is laid back, she is still salty enough to hold the audience’s attention and draw out the darkest of giggles.

Bronwyn has great presence and is very able to hold her own. She is edgy but combines this with an empathetic warmth. I highly recommend heading to George Square.
