Phil Ellis : Come On and Take the Rest of Me 5***** - One4Review

The Monkey Barrel 4 has never seen a more magnificent uproarious introduction and entrance to the stage than Phil Ellis this lunchtime. He has a side kick in Hype Man who lives up to his name and hypes the audience up into a frenzy of expectation.
It is refreshing to see a comedian actually look like he is genuinely enjoying himself and able to just spontaneously laugh at his own jokes. With his northern accent and chaotic style, Phil is like Vic and Bob rolled into one.
There is great physical comedy with Phil dressed in a George at Asda suit. We know this as the tags are still attached! Amongst the chaos there are some great gags about random topics such as not owning a kettle, bath mats, road kill and carpet tiles.
Phil has moved on from last years’ Fringe show. Literally moved on from his large flat share to his own compact one bed flat but he hasn’t reached the dizzy heights of owning more than one pan or more than two carpet tiles.
The show is undeniably chaotic and today’s show over ran and Phil admitted he had to cut gags but this is all part of the charm of this unique performer.
Phil of course finishes on a song. The chorus of which forms the title of the show.
This is a very funny entertaining show and there are great one liners, audience interaction and improv. Every audience member leaves with a smile on their face and feeling like they have been part of quite a unique, hilarious and anarchic experience.
Expect the unexpected.
