“Six Chick Flicks,” a standout at the Edinburgh Fringe, is a side-splitting celebration of beloved chick flicks, expertly parodied by the dynamic duo Kerry Ipema and KK Apple. This fast-paced show smashes together six iconic movies, from Titanic to Legally Blonde to several other favourites, in a whirlwind of laughter and nostalgia. The pair’s fantastic on-stage energy and chemistry propels the audience through a series of rapid-fire sketches that perfectly capture the essence of each film, complete with makeovers, musical moments, and those ever-important montages.

Their ability to channel the characters we all know and love is impressive, particularly in an improv segment that had the audience in stitches. The comedic timing and chemistry between Ipema and Apple make every moment feel fresh, even as they riff on the most familiar of scenes.

A Fringe favorite, this show also touches on contemporary issues, slipping in a clever critique of the absurd US legal ruling on abortion. While the humor remains light and accessible, there’s an undercurrent of sharp social commentary that adds depth to the laughter.

In “Six Chick Flicks,” Ipema and Apple deliver a laugh-out-loud experience that’s both a tribute to and a satire of the chick flick genre, making it a definite must-see at the Fringe.

As Pretty Woman, Vivienne would say, I laughed so hard “I nearly pee’d my pants”.
