This hilariously camp musical comedy follows Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci as they navigate Renaissance Italy, determined to become the greatest religious artists of all time to earn God’s forgiveness for being gay. Dylan MarcAurele’s musical cleverly reimagines their relationship, portraying them as loosely connected brothers who share a talent for the arts and a closely guarded secret about their sexuality. As they strive to master their crafts and win the Pope’s favour, they face the challenges of Church corruption and the pressures of the Medici Art School, which test their bond.

The show opens with a lively number, “Renaissance Men,” a playful nod to Beyoncé’s 2022 album Renaissance. The cast delivers flawless harmonies, hilarious lyrics, and brilliant choreography that seamlessly blend history with contemporary pop culture. The original, dance-infused soundtrack is filled with witty lyrics and references to icons like Lady Gaga, Marissa Tomei, Mean Girls, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Cher, creating a campy and vibrant atmosphere.

The cast delivers rapid-fire dialogue with wit and gusto, infusing their hilarious performances with warmth as they convey messages of friendship and self-acceptance through upbeat musical numbers. They truly shine in this campy Renaissance romp, expertly blending catchy pop songs, zany plot twists, and pitch-perfect comic timing. It’s astounding how much incredible content they pack into just an hour. The audience loved every moment, rewarding the cast with a well-deserved standing ovation.
