Rory O’Hanlon – The Best of Me 4.5 **** - One4Review

Rory O’Hanlon first came to my attention in 2011 when I was fliered by him in a queue. His gift of the gab convinced me to see his show and I wasn’t disappointed.
Further visits over the years have also been very successful so I was not surprised that on arrival there was a long queue to pack into the upstairs room at the Waverley Bar.
Rory hit the stage and was off straight away, an introduction, and into crowd work, mining details for further use, gagging very rapidly, gently taking the mickey, but gathering huge amounts of laughter.
This genial Dubliner, though now London based, was inclusive and relatable throughout.
O’Hanlon is a very well-travelled man and has an anecdote or three from places throughout the world. The audience I was part of came from virtually everywhere in the world, and for a man of his calibre, this mas food and drink to work with.
He talked of accents, drinking cultures, dating and dating apps, cruise ship gigs, jobs all get a mention along with many more.
The jokes come thick and fast the audience were in peels of laughter throughout and his personality and stage presence engulfs the room, in a nice way.
With the Fringe beginning to wind down, there are not too many chances left to see Rory this year, but if you do manage it you are assured a quality show.
