The Magnets: Legends 5***** - One4Review

The Magnets: Legends 5*****

| On 02, Aug 2024

Being asked to review a show for a colleague last minute, comes with anxiety. I did not get a chance to read up on what I was about to go and see, only knowing it was an a cappella group.

Five extremely talented, and very handsome, men burst onto the stage full of energy and enthusiasm. It’s hard not to get swept up into the buzzing atmosphere they create. However, as soon as they belted out a Backstreet Boys number, I was completely sold!

They perform without instruments, with a small background hum for a few songs, so the majority of the music comes from the guys themselves. One of the members, MC Zaney, is a one man vocal percussion machine. He can beat box a variety of instruments and tunes, even a dance tune on his own! That’s not to take away any credit to the others who demonstrated a range of vocal talents and hitting some high notes for men!

The Magnets perform a variety of different styles of music- jazz, pop, RnB, rock – from different eras. However, the majority of tracks were 90s tunes which really appealed to me. Their unique mash ups worked so well and the guys all looked like they were living their best lives on that stage.

To end the show was a 90s medley and everyone was ecstatic! The audience was diverse in age but every one was bouncing in their seat and cheering the boys on!

For a show that was not on my radar I was pleasantly impressed! I highly recommend this show and it would be even better with a group of friends. I absolutely loved this show! It exceeded any apprehensive expectations I had. Get down to the Cowbarn at the Underbelly, only 11 shows left. I have no doubt this show will become popular fast!
