Hal Cruttenden : Can Dish It Out But Can’t Take It 5***** - One4Review

Hal Cruttenden : Can Dish It Out But Can’t Take It 5*****

| On 02, Aug 2025

Hal returns to the Pleasance Cabaret Bar with his brand new show following his previous and very successful show of 2022, which centred around his shock divorce, after a marriage of twenty years plus. The theme continues although things have moved on a pace. Hal has become something of a serial dater! With, it seems, varying degrees of success.

What Hal’s ex wife has gifted him in the divorce is a huge amount of material for a comedy show that is packed with jokes and observations. All delivered with his admirably, not bitter, jovial self deprecating trade mark humour.

There is a bit of Trump bashing and the Fringe audience were definitely on side with this. I’m sure Hal is well prepared for any potential hecklers as he tours the show around the country. Hal has perfect timing and delivery and there are some hilarious observations on life, death, family, and going to the funeral of someone you really don’t like!

We hear about Hal’s two grown up daughters who love him but don’t necessarily respect him. Although they do come in handy for dating advice! They are apparently way more successful at this, and at generally holding down a relationship, than their dad!

The front row is a dangerous place in a Hal Cruttenden show and tonight is no exception. Hal is actually brilliant at this and always manages to somehow not offend and get away with it. This is a skill of an accomplished performer with great awareness and affability.

Go and see this show. It is hilarious and you’ll only be offended if you are actually a fan of Mr Trump.
